Prompt Injection Defense Requires More Than Better Prompts

Technology teams are moving quickly in LLM security, but useful adoption depends on understanding both the opportunity and the operational risk.

What is changing

No instruction can reliably make a model ignore every malicious instruction embedded in untrusted data. The dependable boundary must be outside the model, where software can restrict available actions.

What technology leaders should do

Label untrusted content, minimize tools, validate arguments, require confirmation for sensitive actions and monitor unexpected access patterns.

The practical goal is not to adopt every new capability. It is to choose a clear use case, establish measurable success criteria, and build security and accountability into the system from the beginning.
